How do the document plans differ between a Canadian admission request and a petition?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

A direct admission request centres on evidence the applicant presents to CBP; a petition also involves the employer’s USCIS filing and supporting record. The underlying account of the work and qualifications should remain consistent. Confirm the current forms and instructions for the actual petition.

Plan the handoff after approval

If the applicant is outside the United States, ask what approval documentation and copy of the supporting packet should accompany the later admission request. Ensure the employee understands the employer’s submission and can explain the real duties without memorizing a script. Preserve the filed version separately from drafts.

Any change occurring after filing should be reviewed before travel rather than silently reflected only in a new employer letter. Custody of the file needs an owner too. Decide who holds the definitive copy, who may amend it, and who is told when an amendment happens; a packet that exists in three inboxes with different dates invites an inconsistency nobody intended.

Hypothetical example: an interior designer’s employer updates a project list to add a new client after the letter was signed, and the traveller carries the older version while counsel holds the newer one. Neither party is being dishonest, yet the applicant cannot explain a document they have not seen. Give one named person version control, date every revision, and ensure the person who will actually answer questions is holding the version that was filed or issued.
