Does an L blanket also approve my spouse and children?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

No. Eligible family members must complete their own appropriate L-2 visa or status steps. The company blanket is not a dependent admission document and does not authorize a spouse to work by itself.

Prepare the family alongside the individual case

An eligible spouse may work incident to qualifying L-2 status, with suitable evidence such as an L-2S I-94 where applicable. Unmarried children under 21 may seek L-2 and attend school but cannot work. Check each person’s citizenship, current status and required documents.

The principal’s blanket-based processing should be coordinated with those separate family needs rather than treated as a single approval for everyone. Nothing in the corporate approval reaches the household, and the gap appears in predictable places. School enrolment, a spouse’s employment offer, a driver’s licence application and health coverage each depend on that person’s own status and documents rather than on the employer’s file.

An eligible spouse may work incident to qualifying L-2 status with suitable evidence, while children in L-2 may study but cannot work at any age. Hypothetical example: a warehouse automation supplier moves a director whose spouse already holds an offer from an unrelated firm, and the spouse’s ability to accept it turns on the spouse’s own status evidence rather than on the employer’s blanket. Each person’s documents should be settled separately before commitments are made in reliance on them.
