What does EB-5 cost beyond the investment?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

The qualifying capital amount is not an all-inclusive immigration price. Government filings, immigrant processing, medical examinations, professional work and any project administration charges need their own budget.

Budget through removal of conditions

Ask for a written breakdown by payer, recipient, stage and refund terms. Include family processing expenses, translations, financial tracing and the later I-829 work. Verify government fees when filing rather than relying on an old quote.

Project fees do not automatically count toward qualifying capital, and a forecast of investment proceeds should not fund essential household spending. Payments arrive in a sequence, and knowing which come before any immigration decision changes how a budget is built. Hypothetical example: An investor whose funds came from selling a corporate secretarial services practice discovers that administrative and professional charges fall due at subscription, well ahead of adjudication, while immigrant processing and medical costs arrive much later and family charges repeat per person.

Set the budget out as a timeline rather than a total: what is payable before filing, what at each government stage, what only if conditions are later contested, and what is refundable at each point. Reserve for the removal-of-conditions work at the outset, because that expense sits years downstream and is routinely omitted from an opening estimate. Verify official figures again at each stage rather than carrying forward the first quote.
