Will a detailed duty review increase the cost?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

It may add preparation work when the role is unclear or documents conflict, but it helps determine whether a filing is supportable before government fees are committed. The review should focus on actual responsibilities rather than cosmetic wording.

Ask for a defined scope

Separate manager interviews, document reconciliation and legal assessment from filing charges, applicable supplements, optional premium processing and dependent work. If the proposed assignment needs substantive redesign, understand the operational changes before paying to redraft the petition. A more expensive letter does not make routine work specialised or create a qualifying business need.

Stage the spending so that the cheap questions are answered first. An early assessment of the foreign employment year and the substance of the knowledge claim costs a fraction of a full drafting exercise, and it is the step that decides whether the rest is worth commissioning at all. Government charges belong at the end of that sequence rather than near its start.

Hypothetical example: a welding-consumables supplier pays for a complete petition package before anyone asks whether the proposed U.S. duties are mostly stock control, when the assessment that would have surfaced the problem costs a small share of the drafting fee. Ask which step each invoice represents, so a decision to stop stays available while stopping is still inexpensive.

A staged quote also shows the employer which questions are still unanswered.
