Does corporate sponsorship automatically cover an employee’s family?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

The official FAQ includes family provisions for corporate sponsorship, but family participation has additional per-person charges and should be addressed in the initial application.

Agree who pays for whom

List the spouse and unmarried children under 21 who intend to join, then ask counsel to confirm their circumstances. Record whether the sponsor intends to pay their costs. An employment benefit description should not be treated as an immigration approval or as a complete family eligibility assessment.

Do not infer family coverage from the fact that a company is involved. Establish which people are named, at what stage they must be included, and what charge attaches to each, checking those points against current official materials rather than a package description. Then establish separately who bears each cost, because a company may agree to fund the principal while leaving the family to the individual, and that division is a matter for the agreement between them.

Ask what happens to family members if the corporate arrangement ends. Raise the harder cases explicitly, including a child close to an age limit, a child from a previous relationship, an adult child and a spouse whose documentation is held abroad; a general description tends to be silent on precisely these, and silence is regularly mistaken for inclusion.
