What should be organised to compare the two routes?

Sources checked:

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Create separate personal and corporate summaries identifying the contributor, applicant, decision makers and proposed source of payment.

Make the choice auditable

Retain the company’s proposed authorisation and an explanation of the employee relationship for consultation. Ask for the current filing instructions before declaring any particular corporate record mandatory. The useful first output is a clear description of the arrangement, so an adviser can identify the evidence that actually matters.

Prepare the comparison so that a third party could audit it later. That generally means a single document recording, for each route, what the terms are, where they were found, the date they were checked, what the arrangement would require of the company and of the individual, and which questions remain open. Attach the source materials themselves rather than describing them.

Alongside that, assemble the corporate records that any employer-linked arrangement would need: the entity's constitutional documents, evidence of who may bind it, board or shareholder authority for the expenditure, and the agreement between company and individual. Keep the individual's own civil, identity and immigration records in a separate file, since those are required regardless of which route is chosen and have value independent of this particular comparison. Keep a dated note of every version of the comparison, since terms checked months apart may no longer describe the same arrangement and a reader should be able to see which version any decision was made against.
