Should the family plan to remain after the product launch?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Any longer stay must be supported by valid status and the principal’s continuing qualifying employment. The launch date does not independently determine the family’s eligibility or authorise an indefinite post-launch period.

Review the next phase

Eligible spouses and unmarried children under 21 may seek L-2; eligible spouses can work incident to valid status with proper evidence, while children cannot. Before making long-term commitments, understand the actual approved and admitted periods and the employee’s planned duties after rollout. If the role changes, include dependent consequences in the immigration review rather than assuming the original launch case covers everything.

Family plans fail more often on assumed dates than on eligibility. A household reads the approval period as the length of the stay, signs a lease or enrols a child accordingly, and only later checks the admitted period recorded on the I-94, which is the figure that governs. Hypothetical example: a dental laboratory’s transferee finishes a rollout early and moves into general production work, and nobody reviews whether that change affects the basis on which the family entered.

Unwinding such a decision is expensive in a way immigration paperwork rarely is, because school terms and tenancies do not adjust. Eligible spouses may work incident to valid L-2 status with proper evidence; children cannot work and must remain unmarried and under 21.
