The type of technology in the principal’s case does not change L-2 rules. Eligible spouses in valid L-2 status are employment authorised incident to status, and eligible unmarried children under 21 may hold L-2 without employment authorisation.
Prepare ordinary dependent evidence
Collect identity and relationship records and review the actual admission documentation, including the spouse’s L-2S I-94 where issued. The principal’s case must still qualify, so family plans should not assume that using a public technology makes approval routine. Coordinate dependent processing with the transfer route rather than with a technical certification date.
The nature of the knowledge argument does not affect dependent eligibility, which is assessed on the relationship to the principal and the principal's status. Prepare the family's documents on the ordinary basis and on their own timeline: marriage and birth records, certified translations where required, current passports for each person, and each individual's own immigration history. Treat a spouse's employment as authorized only after checking valid L-2 status and the relevant evidence; children in L-2 status are not work-authorized.
Where the household intends to rely on a second income, treat that as requiring its own confirmation and its own documentation rather than as following from the principal's transfer. Keep the records current, since a process extending over a long period will outlast some of them.
