How soon should I try again after a TN refusal or discrepancy?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Do not use a generic waiting interval as the decision rule. Timing depends on the specific outcome, any applicable procedure or deadline, and whether the material issue has been addressed. An attorney should review those points before another filing or entry attempt.

Use evidence readiness as a milestone

Record any date shown on the decision notice and give it to counsel promptly. Then establish what must be obtained or clarified before the next action. A hypothetical applicant with contradictory employment dates may need records from a former employer; rushing travel does not resolve that inconsistency.

Keep the new employer informed of uncertainty without promising a date that depends on government action or unresolved legal analysis. Milestones work better than intervals here, and they are easiest to see when the schedule is built backwards from the last controllable step. The applicant acts last; before that comes counsel’s sign-off; before that, the arrival of whatever third parties still owe the file; before that, the request itself.

Hypothetical example: a Physiotherapist books a start date around an expected licence verification without asking the issuing body when it begins counting its own turnaround, so the whole schedule rests on a step nobody has started. Tell the employer which parts of the timetable belong to third parties and which belong to you, and describe any government step as unscheduled rather than pending, because no date can be promised for a decision that has not been made.
