Family planning should wait for an assessment of the principal worker’s actual situation and any individual issues affecting relatives. Dependent documentation cannot cure a problem in the principal TN case. Do not assume the earlier event has identical consequences for every family member.
Review histories separately
Give counsel each person’s citizenship, intended status, travel history, and any prior decisions. Where a family member was present during the earlier attempt, keep that person’s documents and recollection distinct from the principal’s. Eligible TD dependents do not receive employment authorization through TD status.
Before committing to a joint move, identify which applications depend on resolving the principal issue and which family documents can be prepared independently. Where the principal’s issue is still undiagnosed, dependent planning has nothing to rest on, although document gathering for each relative can proceed independently and usually should: citizenship evidence, relationship records and prior travel history do not depend on the outcome. Hypothetical example: a Pharmacist postpones a school enrolment decision until counsel has read the earlier notice, while the family’s civil documents are ordered in the same week, so nothing is lost if the principal’s route is confirmed.
Dependants in TD status may study; TD carries no employment authorisation, and no dependent filing repairs a defect in the principal’s case. Ask counsel which family steps genuinely wait on the principal and which do not.
