Are acquisition legal fees part of the L-1B filing cost?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Commercial transaction fees and immigration charges are separate. An acquisition-related L-1B review may add work to establish the corporate relationship, employment history and any necessary changes to existing petitions.

Request a transaction-specific scope

Identify the immigration records affected, which transaction documents are required and whether new or amended filings may follow. Budget government charges, applicable additional fees, professional review and dependent work separately from the purchase price. The amount paid for the business does not establish L-1B qualification or function as a visa investment threshold.

Stage the cost the way the analysis proceeds. The first stage prices the corporate review, reading the transaction documents and establishing the relationship existing after closing. The second prices the employment-history review across the entities involved.

The third prices the petition, including government charges, any applicable additional fees and dependent work. Asking for the stages separately means the corporate review, which can end the enquiry, is not bundled with work that may never be needed. Commercial transaction fees paid to complete the acquisition belong to a different budget entirely and buy nothing in the immigration analysis.

Where an existing petition may need amendment as a result of the deal, ask for that as its own item at the outset, because it is the cost most often discovered late and least often anticipated in the original scope.
